A magical last week of term

Our last week of term started in a magical way with our magic day! The children dressed as witches and wizards and enjoyed a day investigating reversible and irreversible changes. We made bouncy custard, chocolate orange pieces, jelly and bread.

In maths we looked at factors and began to change compare fractions. In English we spent time exploring the Disney animated classic ‘Presto’, which led to lots of interesting drama and writing opportunities.

Enjoy the holidays!

What a magical week!

This week we started our exciting new topic ‘Abracadabra’ by showing the children some magic tricks. Everybody enjoyed themselves and we are looking forward to watching the children perform their own magic tricks in the upcoming weeks.

We have begun to write our own Worst Witch story in English and Maths has seen us exploring decimal numbers.

Friday saw the start of our swimming lessons at Turton school and we hope that you will provide opportunities for your child to go swimming so that we can help them to swim at least 25m unaided.  Swimming is a valuable life saving skill and we hope that you will support us by encouraging your child to swim outside of school times as well. 🙂

Here’s to another great week 🙂

After school club with MCFC

Monday sees the start of the year 5 after school club.

Children can only attend if they have brought their permission slip back to school.

If you are collecting your child when it finishes at 4:00pm then please be on time, or your child will be placed into the school shuttle after school club and you will be charged the full price for an evenings care.

Week 2

Another fantastic week!

Thank you to all the parents that managed to make it to ‘meet the teacher’ on Tuesday. It was wonderful to meet you all and let you know the expectations we have of your child in year 5.

As part of our theme and PSCHE topics we have been visited this week by our local PSCO (Pat), who came into school to talk about anti-social behaviour and our responsibilities in the community.

In Maths we looked at place value and addition and subtraction.

In English we have begun to read ‘The Worst Witch’ and have looked at where the story is set.

The end of the first week!

What a brilliant start to the new year we have made!

The children are settling into life in year 5 with ease and have been enjoying their new lives as UPPER key stage 2 pupils! 😀

This week we have been looking at instruction writing in English, place value in Maths and exploring our rights and responsibilities in our theme lessons.

We are looking forward to our Eid celebration in class tomorrow afternoon 😀😠

Year 4 Football Festival

A big congratulations to the Year 4 football team for competing in the Bolton School’s football festival.

There were 36 schools in total that took part and each team played 7 matches.

The weather on the night was crazy and the children experienced every season in our very special micro climate!  As you can see from the photographs, one minute it was sunny and the next it was almost snowing!

At least we all had fun and the children were  credit to the school and their families.

A big thanks too to all the parents who turned out to support 🙂

Year 5F Egyptology

In our recent theme, the children made canopic jars for our Egyptology. They made posters to accompany their jars. Can you name the 4 different heads? What organ do they look after? What does each head look like?

X factor watch out…..

On Tuesday 8th March, 13 children from year 5 went to Victoria Hall as part of ‘Bolton Music Service presents’. They sang two songs, Manchester and Ever wondered, which they have been practising at school during their music lessons. They all sang beautifully and represented the school fantastically earning rave reviews off several members of the music staff. Simon Cowell watch out!
